Student Hours
Students may use the media center between 7:30 and 7:45 for book
checkout and AR quizzes. All students are to be in their classroom
during the WTYR broadcast. Students should return to their classrooms
by 2:15 each day to prepare for dismissal. Parents may come in
after school with their child/children to checkout books until
3:00. No AR testing will be allowed after school hours.
Student Conduct
While in the media center, students are expected to conduct themselves
in such a manner that they do not infringe on the rights of others.
Failure to conduct themselves in this manner will result in the
student(s) being sent to the stop station in the Media Center
to fill out a stop slip before being sent back to the classroom.
Stop slips must be signed by the parents and teacher before the
student will be allowed to check out again. Students are expected
to use low voices at all times while in the media center. Students
should use care in handling books, materials, and equipment. When
finished, they are expected to return materials to the proper
place. Shelf markers are provided for students to use to mark
the location on the shelf when a book is removed. Students are
expected to dispose of all trash, straighten chairs, and leave
the media center as orderly as they find it. At the beginning
of each school year, classes come in for orientation before checking
out to review media center procedures.
Multimedia Computer Stations
Ten multimedia computers are available in the media center for
patron use. These are networked and have Microsoft Word, Excel,
Power Point, Athena, Accelerated Reader, STAR, World Book Encyclopedia,
and Internet. Printers are not hooked up to these computers, so
patrons using them need to bring a disc to save their work to
be printed in the classroom or computer lab. Teachers can sign
up to send students to work on projects on the computers in the
media center if the computer lab is unavailable.
Book Check Out
The number of books to be checked out by the students varies for
certain grade levels. K-1 is allowed to check out one book from
the media center. First grade students may be able to check out
2 books as the year progresses. Grades 2-5 may check out 2 books
from the media center. Grades 4-5 may have one additional book
checked out if working on a book report. Students in all grade
levels may have the flexibility of exchanging books as often as
they need with the teacher’s permission. Books may be kept
for one week.
Over dues
No fines are charged for overdue materials, but patrons are expected
to return or renew materials promptly. Overdue notices will be
sent out every Friday. The teacher should hand the notice to the
student in order to protect the students’ right of confidentiality.
Their name should not be called out during this process. If a
student has an overdue book, they may not check out another book
until the one overdue is returned.
